Hi folks! By now, you know the drill. You can chaturanga like a boss. You’ve experimented with crow pose and headstand. Maybe you even connected your crow pose to your headstand. What’s next? Well, Pinca Mayurasana (forearm stand) is an excellent next step. It is a great inversion to help you build toward handstand, which we will be exploring in a future post. Your center of gravity is higher off the ground than in headstand, yet not as high as in handstand. This is also a great inversion for people with wrist injuries, as your weight is evenly distributed across elbows, forearms and hands rather than just the hands.
Getting into the pose
Watch the following video to learn how to get into and out of the pose.
This is where I will note that I am still learning, just like many of you out there! Hence, my forearm stand is not perfect – and that is okay! Let’s all work to draw our bodies in towards our center lines as much as possible as we improve…
Final thoughts…
Don’t be afraid to play here! There is virtually no risk of falling on your head or doing anything funky here. If it makes you feel more comfortable, feel free to get creative with blankets to form a landing pad in front of you should you fall. As always, drop me a line if you have any questions!
